What is a Creative District?

A Creative District is a defined area where art, cultural, social, and economic activity takes place. It includes cultural facilities, artists, creative industries, and businesses that support these activities.

A Creative District is:

  • a vehicle to grow jobs, create opportunities in the arts & creative industries, and make the most of the community's art & cultural heritage.
  • a focal point for people to gather and enjoy a vibrant active community.
  • a showcase for the innovation and entrepreneurship that makes our rural town unique.

Placemaking

Improving the walkability of the district through cohesive design of pocket parks, signage & seating encourages businesses to open and visitors to linger.

Economic

Fostering business expansion by nurturing a vibrant Main Street will increase visibility for all of the creatives, businesses, & orgs throughout Chewelah.

Tourism

Promoting Chewelah as a destination for unique experiences in art, culture, nature, adventure, & more. Supporting new & existing of events, attractions, and lodging options.

Arts & Culture

Developing & promoting local events, artists, makers, performers, and cultural groups by facilitating & encouraging collaboration & cooperation.

History & Honor

Sharing & preserving the story of our town while acknowledging & honoring the lands on which we reside as the ancestral home of members of the Spokane, Kalispel & Colville Tribes.
