The Chewelah Creative District is committed to a world in which artists and creatives of all backgrounds and all socioeconomic levels are recognized and embraced as an integral part of our ever-evolving community.

We believe that building a diverse coalition of creative voices and providing equitable access to arts, culture, and participation in Chewelah’s growing creative economy is central to our mission and essential to the sustainable well-being of our community.

We will continue to strive to raise up the many diverse voices present in Chewelah and throughout the Chewelah valley. And, as such, we will continue to welcome new insights, creative collaborations, and diverse human experiences.

Chewelah Creative District is committed to:

  • Providing opportunity and access to the arts & creative industries for all people across differences of race, color,income, religion, sex, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital or domestic partner status, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical or mental disability, medical condition, family care status, military status, veteran status or any other basis protected by local, state, or federal laws.
  • We are committed to modeling diversity and inclusion for Chewelah’s creative community and to maintaining an inclusive environment with equitable treatment for all.
  • Bringing together community members, artists & creatives, volunteers, leadership, and partners from all walks of life that value diverse, inclusive and accessible experiences.
  • Deepening our understanding of and amplifying the wisdom and creative expressions of the original caretakers of the land that we live and work on.
  • Acknowledging, analyzing, and dismantling areas within our policies, programs, and services that may perpetuate exclusion, discrimination, inequity, or systemic oppression.
  • Refining, adapting, and expanding our DEI statement as our organization and community evolves.

Definitions

Equity: Fairness and justice for all people.

Diversity: Variety, multiplicity, and intersectional.

Inclusion: Authentic representation, empowered participation, full access, and true belonging.

Access: Supporting equal entry in a way that enables all people to perceive, operate, and understand.

"The Chewelah Creative District shall observe all local, state, and federal laws which apply to a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Chewelah Creative District shall take no part, directly or indirectly, in the promotion or endorsement of any political, religious, gender, or cultural bias. The Chewelah Creative District will not support or recognize  hate, discriminatory or inflammatory communication in any format." 

Creative Members of CCD are encouraged to create a profile for our Member Directory.

  • These profiles are intended to encourage people to work with local artists, makers, and creative businesses. 
  • Please share your work visually by provide information and images that will showcase your work.
  • Provide at least one way for people to contact you (email, website link, phone, text, social media, etc).
  • All submitted profiles will be reviewed prior to being added to directory.
  • Please reach out to info@chewelahcreativedistrict.org with any questions you have.

Community members  and organizations are encouraged to add events to our calendar that will inspire or engage the creative community.

  • If it's not immediately obvious, please include information about how your event engages the creative sector, inspires community engagement, or supports the creative economy.
  • All submitted events are reviewed prior to being added to calendar.

As part of our mission to promote and support local artists, creatives, and makers, the Chewelah Creative District hosts a seasonal, monthly Spotlight Gallery during Chewelah's First Thursday Art Walk. The final decision on the selection of art featured is at the discretion of our Board of Directors.
